We live in an incredibly dynamic time and maybe that’s why we want to see our homes laconically decorated, comfortable and visually fresh. A real oasis in the everyday bustle of city life will be the Swedish interior, because it is this style that has managed to assemble and harmoniously combine all of the above qualities.
The Swedish interior is characterized by a special, light pitch, which, perhaps, is not found in any of the other styles. It is unlikely that any of them can boast such a variety of white palette, which, besides helping to visually expand the boundaries of space, also positively affects the emotional state of a person.
The forefather of the Swedish style was the artist-designer Karl Larson, who in 1880 decided to decorate his modest house in Stockholm in an unusual white color, slightly diluted with a minimum amount of bright colors.
Many years have passed since then, but the interiors in the Swedish style have not lost their relevance, so it is worth to get acquainted with them especially those who are on the verge of a grandiose renovation.
The main stylistic features of the Swedish interior
To begin acquaintance with this unusual interior it is necessary, certainly, from its typical characteristics. So, the main features of the Swedish decor are:
1. Simplicity of registration;
2. Light tone of walls;
3. Wooden or ceramic floor;
4. Replacement of window curtains on blinds;
5. Often wooden furniture;
6. A lot of sofa cushions;
7. Colored bedspreads;
8. Paintings on the walls;
9. Presence of floor carpets;
10. Large outdoor vases with original painting.
Swedish interior: color layout
As already mentioned, the interior is remembered with its bright palette with the advantage of white tones.
The craving for calm tones is due to the national characteristics of the Swedes’ character, secretive to emotion, but this does not mean that the juiciness and brightness of the colors is alien to them.
Swedes with pleasure fill their homes with bright accessories and decorative elements.
The main colors of the Swedish decor are all pastel shades: cream, cream, milk. Contrast the interior with a more coarse tones: black, brown, burgundy and blue. From the bright palette there are orange, red, pink, yellow, purple and green.
Small house in Swedish style
To decorate a house in the Swedish style is a pleasure, the main thing is to know where to start.
Ceiling
Typically, the finish begins with the ceiling surface. In the Swedish interior it can be covered with wallpaper with subsequent painting, align it with gypsum cardboard and again paint it in the right color or hide under white ceilings. The finishing touch will be the finishing of the ceiling perimeter with polyurethane skirting boards, which exactly simulate stucco molding.
Walls
The walls in the Swedish house can be decorated with light decorative plaster, snow-white vinyl wallpaper with an unusual texture or the wallpaper we used to paint. Modernity has made some adjustments to the Swedish style and today more often in such interiors there is a system of combined wall decoration. It looks like this: three wall surfaces are covered with white plaster, and the rest is highlighted with textured wallpaper linen of bright green or rich red color.
Floors
The floors in a truly Swedish interior are covered with a long board made from natural wood, painted white in a traditional for this decor. But since such an expensive coating can not be used by everyone, and in the care of such floors require increased attention, modern designers are increasingly replacing the floorboard with ceramic tiles, of course, pastel colors. As for the color part of the decor, here they do not depart from the traditions of style.
Swedish interior in the living room
How will the decor of the Swedish room look like, you already have some idea, but what to fill the interior – the question is still open. White walls of the living room will be an excellent background for the same white sofa, which can be covered with a colorful plaid and chaotically decorated with a lot of pillows. This will create the concept of an easy “creative” disorder.
In the set to the couch, of course, are purchased chairs, but only their upholstery should be slightly darker than the sofa. In the center of the furniture composition, you can set a coffee table, which can be wooden or pleasing the eye with decorative forging.
In principle, for the Swedish interior it does not matter what it will be made from and what shape it will be given, most importantly, that it too is white.
On the floor of the living room can lie a rectangular or oval carpet, the color scheme of which is combined with the tone of furniture upholstery or sofa plaids. Decorate the living room with an intricate shape with mirrors, pictures in modest white frames, floor lamps and painted vases, puffs, window blinds.
Bedroom in Swedish style
Since the heart of the bedroom is a bed, then it is given the main attention when furnishing the room. It should be made of wood, ideally from a woody massif. Made of durable material, it will serve the owners for more than one year and also perfectly fit into a stylish Swedish interior. The bed frame does not necessarily need to be painted white, it may well remain a natural shade.
All other furnishings: bedside tables, chest of drawers, wardrobe, dressing table – can also be made of unbleached wood. More than appropriate in the Swedish bedroom wicker chairs and padded stools. The ceiling and walls of the bedroom are covered with light paint, but the floors here can have the color of natural wood.
Decorate the bedroom on the same principle as the living room. Here, too, hang paintings, mirrors and add outdoor vases, lamps with compact lampshades, fresh flowers and hide behind the window blinds.
Bathroom in Swedish style
The room in a Swedish style bathroom should bear a touch of light severity. The ideal order in it will give the room a visual lack of living, which in this case will only emphasize the pedantry of the Swedish interior. In such a bathroom you will never see jars with creams, tubes with toothpaste, perfume bottles, deodorants and other trifles – all this is surely hidden on the shelves and in the drawers of the bathroom headset.
But the general background of the Swedish bathroom is not only a bright palette. Here often there are additional shades like gray, black, brown. This is certainly pleasing to the eye, but still the leadership remains behind the beloved Swedes white, so his leadership is one of the most important stylistic conditions. If there are windows in the bathroom to decorate their curtains, it does not go initially, because for a damp room this is nonsense. Here, too, stylish and comfortable modern blinds are used to the Swedish interior.
From the plumbing in the situation perfectly fit a rectangular bath and a sink with chrome fittings and mixers.
Dilute the design of stylish sconces, colored towels and a compact vase with lovely flowers, standing somewhere near the washbasin.
Cuisine in Swedish
The room of Swedish cuisine is content with a typical set of furniture, without pretentiousness and other excesses. Kitchen set, dining table and comfortable chairs – that’s all you need for the unassuming Swedes.
Kitchen walls are usually covered with waterproof paint, of course, white, and the furniture present may well be in the same range. Slight contrast with the situation is only allowed to the dining table. It can be gray or brown. But the chairs in the Swedish kitchen interior can be not only traditionally wooden. It is quite comfortable to feel and modern plastic models.
Kitchen – this is perhaps the only room in the decor of which open shelves are welcomed, because they provide quick access to the right products and utensils. Naturally, they must be flawlessly orderly, because the Swedish style is characterized by a special neatness, besides, the white design requires it.
You can not ignore the luxurious, according to stylistic standards, the decor of the kitchen. There are a lot of flowering plants planted in monochrome light pots, wall pots, glass panels with photo prints, decorative plates, white shutters and, of course, a chandelier imitating the design of palace candlesticks.
Conclusion
Despite the apparent simplicity, the Swedish interior produces an exceptionally positive impression. It is always fresh and relevant, but this direction has been almost a century and a half already!
