Interior of a long narrow room

The successful interior of any room should emphasize its good features. If you have to decorate long narrow room, you can face difficulties, especially if there is no row of windows on the side wall, and the room looks like a tunnel. The low ceiling also makes the room darker and darker, but the color scheme can change everything.

More light

Determine where the most natural light comes from. Use it, covering the window or windows with the lightest window draperies. If you need privacy at night, hang side curtains to close the window if necessary. Fabrics for curtains choose light and light, no brocade, jacquard or damask.

To give long narrow room the illusion of width, you need to make the eye move around the room, without delaying. If there is a ceiling cornice, paint it in the same color as the walls. Frames of doors and windows make one shade with adjacent walls to make them look like a single whole. Do not paint the plinth or cornices in a dark color against the background of pale walls, this draws attention to the parameters of the room.

Furniture

Arrange the furniture so that there is a free passage between it and the end. If one long wall is occupied by a bookcase from floor to ceiling or fireplace, place the furniture at the opposite wall, and leave the middle free so that you can go through. All other furniture should have open legs and back so that the rest of the room can be seen through them.

If possible, try not to put furniture near the wall. Two small sofas, placed perpendicular to the wall with a passage from the side, will make the room not as cramped as a huge soft corner dominating the interior and occupying most of the room. Separate seating areas also open the walls visually.

Visual tricks

A long narrow room seems shorter, if at the end to put an obstacle. Use for this purpose a bench, a decorative screen or even a game table in front of the window, so that the eye clings to it and stops.

If a beautiful view opens from the window on the side wall, put the sofa at an angle to it so that you and your guests can admire the landscape. If you look at an angle, the room will look wider than in reality, and its length will no longer be so obvious.

Accessories

Mirrors are the simplest way to visually expand a long narrow room. Scattered light blurs the outline of a long wall. Wall decoration should be kept to a minimum so that it does not overload the narrow room. If small rugs lay in the aisle, they will be clinging to them when walking. It is better to put them under a cocktail or coffee table to give the interior brightness.
